Here is a quick video tip about how to get in and out of the car when you have back pain. This is also a really useful tip even if you don’t have back pain as it helps protect your back even when you’re feeling good.

One of the things you commonly see when you are getting in and out of the car you have to move your knees quite far apart. This can put strain through your lower back and it can also put strain through your pelvic joints. On the model here these are your sacroiliac joints here and they become stretched, they become irritated when you move your legs far apart, especially if they’re already a bit inflamed at the time if you’re having issues. It also puts pressure through your lower back.

So what do you do? Well it’s very simple, all you have to do is instead of putting one leg out the car first imagine you have a tight rubber band around your knees and all you have to do is very gently inch your knees around so you’re facing the car door so then you can get up and out. That also means you’re not twisting. By not twisting you’re saving your lumbar spine and by not moving your knees far apart it means that you’re helping your pelvic joints.

I hope you found this quick tip useful. It makes a huge difference, especially if you are having issues at the time.
