Video – How to Help Back Pain When Sitting
Scroll down to watch a quick video for advice on what to do if you sit a lot during your day at work or at home. It can make a huge difference to how you feel.
Welcome to this quick video tip on how often should you be getting up from sitting during the day to help your back.
This is some of the advice I give to patients on a regular basis, because in modern life we are becoming more and more sedentary. So whether it’s driving, whether it’s working at a computer, or whether it’s actually just sitting down at the end of the day watching TV, and having a coffee, or a glass of wine depending on how your day has been.
What do you do? It’s very, very simple. All you need to do is get an alarm, and you set it for every 20 to 30 minutes. You put it somewhere where you have to physically get up to go and get it. So you carry on working, and then once the alarm goes off you literally get up and you go and switch it off. Once you’re standing, just take a minute or two to very gently move about a bit, do some very gentle neck articulations. You know, basically, just do a little bit of movement.
Do some gentle shoulder rolls. That will help take out the tension through your neck and shoulders if you’ve been working at a computer, and you will be surprised how much better you feel at the end of the day if you make sure you do this every 20 to 30 minutes. Also, you’ll be more productive because you won’t feel as tired.
